Hmm. One of the VN Kickstarters I was relying on launching last month…is showing no signs of launching in a range where I could really use the money. I may have to open up music commissions again to mitigate the (potential) $2k loss while we’re still building the new demos for the stretch goal campaign.
Whooboy! My advice for everyone? Don’t be your project’s producer, writer, composer, replacement vfx artist, and whatever else I happen to be doing on a given week. Because even if you can handle it… It’s not the most optimized approach. This is it. This is how absurdly cheap I am when it comes to keep project costs down.
Have you tried modeling?
Which story had better female representation: Women of Xal, or Chronexia and the Eight Seals?

I have this unfortunate…thing(?) where I am undeniably arrogant, but it’s forcibly humbled by my constant and internal “Who can like someone like me? I’ve been so blessed, but I can’t really fully grasp how I deserve any of it. . _.” thoughts.
To me, this is a paradox that most don’t get, but there it is, two defining forces about me that make me..me! So to answer your ask: I kind of do? In a “Well, I’m obviously not as horrible as some other guys, but…I should be the norm of male behavior? And not the exception??? . _.” kind of way. I’m always open to hearing other people’s perspectives, however. Helps me be a better person.
DO I NEED TO RANT ABOUT YOU, BRUH?
But seriously though @projecttrinity what is it precisely about Doctor Joy that makes us want to be increasingly inappropriate like… it can’t just be his looks. We’ve all seen hot guys. Is it the absolute wall of intense obliviousness that you’re never sure if real or affected? Is it the promise of the ability to make so many anatomy jokes? What is it?
I’mma be completely real with ya, Elvensemi!
I am, at the heart of it all, a very cheeky writer. And more importantly, someone extremely aware of what people like, dislike, and what they’ve been wanting out of their fiction. To a meta degree. All those popular Tumblr and Jezabel posts about appealing to women and feminism? Studied them and kept mental notes. The ladies on staff and friends of mine? Listened to you all. (80% of my friends and, according to some stat thingy, fans, identify as ladies.) I listened and incorporated it all into my more recent stories.
Doctor Joy is the result of this. :3
…I openly admire your prowess and grudgingly admire your ability to play my fetishes like a fiddle.
This was me while I was reading his “Mesto Accelerando” books. When he’s good, he’s fucking goooooood. I always considered him the poster child of the phrase “Why Aren’t You Available???!” lol

So the “Women of Xal” Kickstarter has come to an end. We’ve been funded with $13,446 out of the $10,000 goal. Thank you all, for making this possible. This is the biggest step my team has ever taken, and we’re proud to be able to take it together with such loving fans. Here’s our post-KS FAQ, that will hopefully answer some questions while we get to work. (Below the line!) For everyone else: You’ll want to subscribe to our Youtube channel, where we’ll be uploading HD videos of WoX and other productions we’re working on. (LINK)
The fact Xuna is the head of it. xD;

I am fully aware I am technically cheating by answering this 4-week old ask days after the Kickstarter ends, but: Yes, yes I do. Because you all are awesome. =)

RANT INCOMING WARNING!
It’s part of the lore balance. Xal leans towards women, Accelerando has no gender bias, and Earth leans towards men. They all have something to teach the other, and it’s all helping the overarching narrative reach “Disc V” (What one fan calls “The Cataclysm of Feels”) Which brings me to the potential discourse that could arrive from “Women of Xal”
I made sure to mitigate such talk with making the characters people first, not their theme/message. The world of Xal is very pro-woman, but I made sure it was in-your-face clear that not only were other women (like Velvet!) trying to help correct some wrongs, but the whole political climate was becoming more and more split as the years go on pertaining to the treatment of men. It’s also why I avoided the eye rolling “typical men/women’ type of dialogue. Xal is just like Earth when it comes to gender politics: It’s so much more complicated and nuanced to address one culture’s faults and the script should not hurt itself with excuses to put one gender down in favor of another That’s why the script has and will continue to show that everyone is so much more than their gender and/or their faults, and will continue to show the effects of harmful societal expectations and how it warps otherwise smart/wise/kind people’s views.
That, along with having Earth and especially Accelerando shine a light at Xal and Xal right back at them, will hopefully tell people who will never see this little rant that misandry and coddling are not messages I’m interested in delivering. And hopefully, I won’t!
Meets the minimum requirement for a male writer making female characters.

I’m so sorry Mochi. And by extention @nomnomnami.

WOW. Ha, what an episode, eh? This is the finale but there will be a ‘Xonus’ episode Tuesday with some further commentary and some outtakes. I’m super excited that @projecttrinity have met their first Kick Starter goal! You can still contribute though! Check them out here.

Truly, the best part about this playthrough/ending is how the writer set up the morality system even for just the demo.
If these guys went full out asshole, they would have never seen the Clanice situation, but because they had a bit of a heart, they had to see their morals thrown up against a woman who wasn’t as righteous as they are. It’s great to see other people go completely serious with their choices when their choices all lead up to the bigger, more impactful ones. <3
